Fissure Jazz is a jazz combo comprised of young talent from the Sioux Falls area. The name comes from a fun interpretation of the anatomical definition of fissure: “a deep groove in the brain.” The group has been playing together for nearly two years and has shared the stage at Jazz Night at the Pavilion, fundraiser concerts, JazzFest 2018, and several private events. The group consists of a full rhythm section, three to four horns, and a featured vocalist. Their repertoire includes jazz standards, modern works and arrangements, and original music. The Jazz Fest 2018 performance has been the band’s favorite, and they are incredibly excited to share their music once again!
Music influences: JAS Quintet, Steve Wiest, Dan Miller, Bob Reynolds, Pete James Johnson, John Kizilarmut, Harry Watters, Kamasi Washington, our high school teachers.
